The latest Acer Aspire One takes the 7-inch Acer netbooks to the next level with a 10.1-inch display and a nice design in ruby red.
Design
A red case is an unusual color for notebooks, but it’s something different and nicely combined with the black keyboard. Some design elements are particularly noticeable and nicely designed like hinge protectors on both sides. Unfortunately, the overall experience is somehow ruined by the 6-cell battery that sticks out at the back side. Still, nice design for a netbook and it’s not worth to run the D150 with a 3-cell battery.
Display
The red AOD150 in this review has a glossy CrystalBright LED display with a 1024×600 resolution which is very comfortable to read under various light conditions. The screen has also an integrated 0.3 megapixel, 640×480 resolution webcam and microphone embedded in the screen frame. It’s ideal to use with video conferencing software like Skype.
Keyboard
The keyboard is actually pretty well designed. The surfaces around the keyboard and touchpad of the D150 have a brushed aluminum finish so it looks like it belongs to higher product class. Most of all, all the important keys are all in the right places, unlike some competitors. As expected, the keyboard needs a bit of getting used to, but after a while, typing comfortably is no problem.
Performance
Powered by the usual 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1920 has similar performance to other netbooks in it’s class, like the Asus Eee PC 1000HA. In our test it showed enough power for regular web browsing and Office use. Running Windows XP Home, it feels as responsive as a Core 2 Duo based laptop running Vista.
Battery life
Thanks to the low power consumption components and the 6-cell 5800mAh battery built into this netbook, the battery life is up to 7-8 hours under normal use. The runtime will vary with different usage, but normally it should give you a day of mobile computing without a problem.
Conclusion
On the end of the day, the red D150 is a netbook with which you can do almost everything on the go. If you are looking for a nice 10-inch netbook, you should definitly consider the Acer Aspire One AOD150.
